This project aims to investigate the geophysical properties of the subsurface layers, delineate the shallow strata and accurately estimate the depth and the spread of the waste backfill and backfill in the studied area. The field program conducted in the study area to achieve the investigation’s objectives is Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) geoelectric methods are well known that can be successfully employed for subsurface stratigraphic delineation.
The survey was conducted by 4th Domain Geophysical Services at the studied site. It was decided that 7 profiles were needed so the area of will be covered probably and the potential zones will be studied perfectly as shown in figure (1). Applying the Schlumberger Wenner array which showed the best protocol to detect and get reliable result in such area.
The waste backfills and backfill was characterized by low resistivity values ranged from 1 to 30 ohm.m, which indicates that soft hardness also it is presented in all profiles in different sizes with thicknesses ranging from 5m to 10 m. The figure (4) estimates and illustrate the waste in the study area, which was estimated to be around 800000 m3.
